Follow Alice and Elias on a Point & Click adventure taken right from the book, Imperiet's Arvingar on their search for their missing mother

My contributions

During this project I was mainly in charge of the Level design. But I worked on a little bit of everything, from UI design to Dialogue management & Interactivities.
During this project I was working a lot around the books and basing a lot of the level design and the character designs from the descriptions and artworks from the books. From how the kitchen looks to the UI sprites when the character speaks. I wanted the experience to be as close to the books as possible. You can see the comparisons example in the pictures to the right.

About the game

Your father just got taken away by the cops, suspected to have done something horrible to your mother. Follow Alice and her little brother Elias as they try to find an answer to where their mother might have gone.

Initial Brainstorming

We knew pretty early on from the start what we wanted to do. We just had to brainstorm around which chapter and what from the books that we wanted to implement into a game

The process

At the start we where assigned to a different group, but due to bad work dynamics we decided that it was best to split the group. After the group split me and my classmate already knew what we wanted to do as we had discussed it before. We just needed to refine and play around with the idea a little more

What we had to cut

Our scope for this project we decided to keep very minimal, with the time and due to us being only two people working on this and working in UE5 for the first time

  • More elements from the book

At first we wanted to add more from the actual book, We where thinking first of adding the part that happens right after they meet the alien. But due to time we decided to skip on that and focus more on the looks and the feel of the current game.

  • more interactables

One thing we had on our "wish list" was to have even more small interactables, we already added a few but we wanted to add more, for example, a small interaction with the cop.

Takeaways

Once we got the ball rolling we where able to work very well and quickly on this, It was a lot of fun learning and working in another engine that Unity and I would very much like to work with Unreal Engine again.
